Workers Power USA (WPUSA), the sympathizing section of the L5I in the USA, held its founding conference in Chicago on 13th-15th November 2009. The conference was a very important step forward for the organization, discussing not only tasks but also passing an action programme.
The section has members across the country now, with regular contacts coming in to the website. This gives the League opportunities to build the organization in several different regions, as well as new challenges.
The conference certainly was a historic event in so far as for the first time since the centrist degeneration of the Socialist Workers Party in the late 1940s/early 1950s authentic Trotskyism has again found its roots in the country which knew one of the most important sections of the Fourth International in Trotsky’s lifetime.
The conference agreed to publish the Action Program as a pamphlet in the next few weeks, as well as selling a new book version of Richard Brenner’s Trotsky: An introduction.
